Tompolo Not Answerable to EFCC, Has No Involvement in Naira Abuse  - Ezekiel Kagbala

Editorial:

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should not be drawn into a web of political machinations that seeks to tarnish the image of a man who has become a symbol of hope and resilience for many in the Niger Delta, Government Ekpemupolo popularly known as Tompolo.

Suffice to say that Tompolo has been at the forefront of efforts to combat oil theft and illegal bunkering in Nigeria. His initiatives have not only contributed to the security of oil infrastructure but have also generated trillions of Naira for the Nigerian government.

For EFCC operatves to associate Tompolo with Naira abuse under any guise is unacceptable. There is no connection as to how a man sprays naira notes in his birthday, and suddenly Tompolo, who was dancing innocently to the glory of Egbesu is suddenly associated with what EFCC tags as Naira abuse.

Tompolo did not spray naira note during his 54th birthday celebration in April. If the EFCC is not being used as a ready tool of mischief, why shouldn't it go after the sprayer if there was anything suggestive of Naira abuse. Is the EFCC so lazy, lousy, or incompetent to tackle financial crimes being perpetrated by politicians rather than childishly degrading the institution to a mere social media video dependent commission.

Why didn't they go to Gbaramatu and see for themselves if there was naira abuse while the people were worshiping. Why should the EFCC act with such a low level of credibility?

For the records, Tompolo's contributions should be celebrated rather than questioned. It is disheartening to see that those who have made themselves enemies of the Ijaw nation are now attempting to use the EFCC as a tool to undermine his efforts and reputation.

Tompolo's rise to prominence is not just a personal victory; it is a collective triumph for the Ijaw nation. He has become a voice for the voiceless, advocating for the rights and welfare of his people. To question his integrity or to suggest that he is involved in any form of financial misconduct is not only unjust but also an affront to the struggles of the Ijaw people.

It is essential to recognize that Tompolo is answerable to the Nigerian government, not the EFCC. His dealings are transparent, and his commitment to the economic development of the Niger Delta is evident. The EFCC should focus on the real culprits — the oil thieves who have been siphoning off the nation’s wealth for their gain. These individuals have caused immeasurable harm to the economy and the environment, and it is they who should be held accountable.

Moreover, the invocation of Egbesu, the deity of justice and protection revered by the Ijaw people, serves as a reminder of the cultural and spiritual dimensions of this struggle.

Tompolo's connection to his roots and his respect for the traditions of his people should not be overlooked. To disturb his peace is to invite the wrath of Egbesu, a force that has historically defended the rights of the Ijaw nation.
