In a sustained effort to eradicate cataract and blindness in Warri Kingdom, the Ugbajo Itsekiri USA, Inc. in collaboration with the Africa Cataract and Eye Foundation has successfully hosted a free eye medical outreach for residents of Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State.

The medical outreach comprised comprehensive eye examinations, consultations, and surgery for those diagnosed with cataracts.

Over five hundred Itsekiri sons and daughters drawn from the various communities within Warri kingdom benefitted from the initiative aimed at positively  transforming lives as they underwent essential eye care services, including cataract surgeries during the medical outreach, which took place between February 24th - 28, 2025.
FocalPoint Reports observed that patients who underwent surgery were able to see clearly.

Speaking with journalists during the medical outreach, the President of the body, Mr. Jemine Okotie-Yesin emphasized the importance of such programmes in addressing preventable blindness. "Cataracts are one of the leading causes of vision impairment, especially in our locality. This outreach not only provides immediate relief to those suffering from cataracts but also raises awareness about eye health in the community," he stated.

Also speaking, the Chief Ophthalmologist of the Africa Cataract and Eye Foundation, Dr. Mejuya Okorodudu highlighted the significance of the outreach in the context of the broader mission of the organization.

Okorodudu said, "Our goal is to uplift our community and ensure that no one is left behind when it comes to removing cataract.
"If each year we are able to treat five hundred patients, and remove cataracts, in five years, we will be able to eradicate cataracts completely, of not, any other case will be fresh case".

Responding, many of the beneficiaries who ranged in age groups including teenagers expressed gratitude for the opportunity given them to receive medical attention that they might not have been able to ordinarily afford.

The beneficiaries including Mr. Blessing  Demeyi, Egini Runor and Faith Edema, among others, lauded the apex Itsekiri body in the US in collaboration with the Africa Cataract and Eye Foundation for the free medical programme for Itsekiri communities praying that God will bless them for initiating the kind gesture.
