Delta Council Chairman Takes action as flood Threatens Communities in Delta

The executive chairman of Bomadi local government area of Delta State, Hon. Andaye Rawlings Dagidi has taken steps to prepare for possible flood disaster.
According to the Chief Press Secretary, Chancel Bomadi Sunday, while speaking with journalist on Wednesday in Bomadi, noted that "The council chairman is out with practical measures to minimize damages that could be associated with flooding.
This medium reports that anxiety was building from the likelihood of flooding, which could destroy lives and property as witnessed in previous incidents.
It was also observed that people of Bomadi need measures in place to address possible displacement and planned provision of relief materials if the rising water level overruns the community.
It could be recalled that devastating floods had occurred in 2012, 2018 and 2022, leaving trails of destruction and despair in riverine communities in the state.
FocalPoint Reports, during a tour at Bomadi local government headquarters gathered that the chairman, Dagidi Andaye was also making preparations to tackle the perennial flooding of the council headquarters and neighbouring communities, warning that buildings obstructing the free flow of water channels will be removed.
He also initiated removal of silt from drainages in the metropolis, stating that they are the solutions to addressing flooding in the town.
The Chairman spoke with journalists after assessing flood prone areas in the town, according to him, "The government would take stringent measures to open up the drainages". He vowed that any building or structures blocking the passage of water would not be spared.
”The residents of the town would not continue to suffer because of few individuals who build and blocked water channels, government must take its course to stop the trend in Bomadi.”
He advised residents to desist from dumping refuses on drainages and stop building on water channels.
He also tasked the Head of Environment department of the council Mrs Dirime-ere Talbort to apply the law and deal with environmental offenders to serve as deterrence to others.
