Ijaw leaders in Delta State have endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as their preferred candidates for the 2027 general elections, citing ongoing development efforts in the Niger Delta.
The endorsement was made at a grand reception held in Bomadi, headquarters of Bomadi Local Government Area, where thousands of supporters, political stakeholders, and traditional leaders gathered in honour of the Delta State governor.
The motion for the endorsement was moved by a member of the House of Representatives, Julius Pondi, and seconded by a state lawmaker, Kenneth Oboro, before it was adopted through a voice vote presided over by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor.
Speaking at the event, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dennis Otuaro, who joined members of the PBAT Door-2-Door Movement 2027, urged the people of the Niger Delta to support the Renewed Hope agenda of the Tinubu administration.
Otuaro said the Federal Government had demonstrated commitment to the development of the region through key projects and sustained support for interventionist agencies, including the Niger Delta Development Commission and the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
He called on the people to reciprocate what he described as the President’s goodwill by supporting his re-election bid in 2027.
Also speaking, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, commended Governor Oborevwori for what he described as deliberate efforts to develop Ijaw communities in Delta State.
In recognition of his contributions, traditional rulers under the Delta Ijaw Traditional Rulers Forum conferred the title “Izonebimiewei” on Oborevwori, in appreciation of his developmental strides in the area.
Responding, Oborevwori thanked the Ijaw people for the honour and their continued support, stating that his administration had invested over N400bn in infrastructure and development projects across Ijaw communities.
He pledged to sustain development efforts and ensure greater inclusion of the people through appointments and projects.
The event also witnessed the presence of key political figures, stakeholders, and large numbers of supporters who reiterated their commitment to the re-election of both the President and the Delta State governor in 2027.
