National Coordinator of Social Movements for Good Governance in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Prince Temienor Oghenekevwe, has made an unspecified cash donation in support of the upbringing of a vulnerable three-month-old baby girl abandoned by the mother in Agbowhiame, Ughelli South LGA.
Temienor Oghenekevwe, Delta State House of Assembly candidate for Ughelli South Constituency on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 general elections, made the presentation on Tuesday, while equally calling on good-spirited members of the public to rally in support of the vulnerable child.
He described his presentation as "a philanthropic donation to save the baby's life since her poverty-stricken mother was nowhere to be found again".
"I was moved by the passion to help the vulnerable child. This is my area and whatever affects Ughelli South affects me as well. I will make sure I support the baby by ensuring proper care for the baby", he stated.
FocalPoint Reports gathered that the baby, Ejomafuwe Peace, was born by one 20-year-old Okiemute, a resident of Agbowhiame community in Ughelli South LGA, who got impregnated while struggling to make ends meet working as a helper to a bricklayer in a local building site.
After giving birth to the baby girl barely three months ago, Okiemute complained bitterly that her boyfriend, Godfrey French of Ekrukaudu, had abandoned her completely right from the hospital where she delivered.
According to her, Godfrey had since eloped and was nowhere to be found again.
Consequently, the baby mother lamented that life has become unbearable for her as she is living with her mother, Mrs. Christiana Adgedes, whose means of livelihood is also dependent on earnings from whatever she rakes in from where she is helping to serve blocks whenever bricklayers who are building call upon her.
Mrs. Christiana Adgedes, the grandmother, had earlier cried out expressing the family's frustration, which prompted Temienor Oghenekevwe's gesture.
Meanwhile, Temienor Oghenekevwe has appealed to the family of Godfrey French of Ekrukaudu to take responsibility for the abandoned child.
