Ijaw Nation Must Stand United or Lose It All”: Odidi Chairman Okrikpa Rallies N-Delta Behind Tompolo, Tantita Security
By Ezekiel Kagbala
A prominent oil and gas stakeholder in Nigeria’s Niger Delta, Comrade Preye Okrikpa, has issued a strong call for unity among the Ijaw people and the wider region, urging collective support for the pipeline surveillance drive led by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo and Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, which he described as vital to protecting the region’s economic lifeline and national stability.
Okrikpa, who chairs the oil-rich Odidi Community (OML-42 ) in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, said the initiative represents a decisive effort to curb oil theft, boost production, and secure sustainable development across the Niger Delta.
In a message addressed to Ijaw sons and daughters, Okrikpa placed particular emphasis on the urgent need for total and unwavering support for High Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo, stressing that his efforts gave birth to Tantita security which represents a bold and practical response to the long-standing challenges of oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and insecurity in the region.
He noted that backing Tompolo’s leadership and Tantita security is not merely an endorsement of an individual or organization, but a collective stand for the protection of Ijaw resources, the stabilization of Nigeria’s oil production, and the economic survival of the Niger Delta.
He described Tantita’s operations as a symbol of indigenous capacity, resilience, and commitment to regional development.
Okrikpa highlighted the long-standing contribution of the Niger Delta to Nigeria’s economy, noting that the region remains the backbone of the nation’s oil wealth. He lamented, however, that despite its immense natural resources, the area has suffered years of environmental degradation, neglect, and insufficient recognition for its people.
According to him, this imbalance underscores the need for proactive measures to protect both the environment and the livelihoods of local communities.
Describing the present moment as a turning point, the Odidi chairman said the Ijaw people have been presented with a historic responsibility to take ownership of their resources and ensure their protection.
He emphasized that the opportunity must not be taken lightly, as it carries implications not only for the Niger Delta but for Nigeria as a whole.
Central to his message was the commendation of Government Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, whose leadership through Tantita Security Services has, according to Okrikpa, significantly improved surveillance and protection of Nigeria’s oil pipelines.
He noted that these efforts have contributed to increased oil production and renewed hope for the region. Okrikpa stressed that the initiative goes beyond a contractual obligation, describing it as a mission to defend local resources, secure the environment, create employment opportunities for youths, and restore peace across the creeks.
He therefore urged all segments of the Ijaw population—including youths, elders, women, professionals, leaders, and those in the diaspora—to unite behind the initiative. Okrikpa called for collective support rooted in unity, vigilance, and patriotism, stating that the success of the project depends largely on the cooperation and commitment of the people.
The community leader further stressed that unity among the Ijaw people is essential at this critical time. He said supporting Tantita Security Services represents more than pipeline protection, as it also safeguards livelihoods, promotes national economic growth, and demonstrates the capacity of the Ijaw people to manage and protect their resources responsibly.
Okrikpa warned against acts of sabotage and division, urging stakeholders not to allow forces opposed to progress to derail the initiative. He called for a unified voice across all communities, creeks, and traditional institutions in support of peace, security, and sustainable development in the region.
Reinforcing the broader significance of the initiative, he stated that the success of Tantita Security Services would translate into progress for the entire Niger Delta and serve as a source of pride for the Ijaw nation. He added that protecting oil infrastructure is directly tied to securing Nigeria’s economic future.
Okrikpa However, called for unwavering loyalty, courage, and unity among the Ijaw people. He reaffirmed his belief that a collective commitment to the cause would ensure lasting peace and development in the region, while also strengthening Nigeria as a whole.
