NDYC Urges Tinubu to Sign Tantita Pipeline Surveillance Contract Renewal
By Ezekiel Kagbala
The President of the Niger Delta Youth Council (NDYC), Comrade (Chief) Bene Mamamu, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to approve the renewal of the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, citing its contributions to improved oil production, regional peace, and environmental protection in the Niger Delta.
In a statement personally signed and made available to journalists on Wednesday in Warri, Mamamu urged the President to disregard opposing voices, which he described as detrimental to both the region and the nation’s economic stability.
He emphasized that the contract, currently handled by Tantita a firm linked to Niger Delta frontline leader High Chief Government Ekpemupolo has played a pivotal role in curbing pipeline vandalism and oil theft, long-standing challenges that have hampered Nigeria’s crude oil output.
“Mister President should not listen to those who do not mean well for the Niger Delta and the country at large. The renewal of this contract is critical to sustaining the gains recorded in recent times,” Mamamu stated.
The NDYC president further assured Tinubu of the continued support of youths in the region for his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, expressing confidence in Tantita’s capacity to deepen youth engagement through employment opportunities and community-based initiatives.
Mamamu, however, strongly opposed calls for the decentralisation of the pipeline surveillance contract, warning that such a move could undermine the progress already achieved.
“We condemn the call for decentralisation of the Tantita contract. Our findings indicate that multiple contractors are already handling various sections across ethnic nationalities, and further fragmentation will not serve the national interest,” he said.
He reiterated the council’s position that consolidating surveillance efforts under a coordinated structure has yielded measurable results, particularly in enhancing security across critical oil infrastructure.
The NDYC leader also appealed to leaders and stakeholders of the Niger Delta region to unite and support Tantita's efforts to boost oil and gas production while maintaining peace and stability in the Niger Delta.
“on behalf of NDYC, we appeal to stakeholders to support Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited to sustain increased output and ensure optimum peace in the region,” Mamamu added.
The pipeline surveillance contract, widely regarded as a key component of efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s oil assets, has remained a subject of national discourse amid competing interests and policy considerations.
