Odidi Community Inaugurates New Executive, Unveils “RESCUED” Development Agenda
ODIDI — A new executive council has been inaugurated in Odidi Community, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, with the chairman, Amb. Gbenekama Truston Gesikeme, promising transparent leadership, environmental restoration, youth empowerment and infrastructural development.
Speaking shortly after the swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday, Gesikeme described the event as a significant moment in the history of the community, noting that the new administration marked the first time women were accommodated in the executive structure of Odidi Community.
He disclosed that the administration would operate under a development blueprint christened “RESCUED,” aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, community unity, empowerment and grassroots development.
According to him, the executive would engage relevant government agencies and interventionist bodies, including the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs (MNDA), Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), towards tackling environmental degradation, unemployment and infrastructural deficits confronting the community.
He listed some of the administration’s priority projects to include shoreline protection and reclamation, improved healthcare delivery, educational support, potable water supply and the construction of concrete jetties.
Gesikeme also assured residents of accountability and openness in governance, revealing plans to produce a formal constitution for the community within six months.
The chairman further pledged that the administration would adhere strictly to its single four-year tenure and ensure a peaceful transition at the expiration of its mandate.
While appreciating elders, women and youths for their support during the transition process, he urged all stakeholders to remain united in the interest of peace and development, stressing that “power is transient.”
Earlier, Secretary of the Elders Council, Engr. James Meneko Deribi, said the inauguration became necessary following the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past executive led by Mr. Prince Preye Okrikpa on April 28, 2026.
Deribi charged the new leadership to work harmoniously with all organs of the community and focus on projects that would improve the wellbeing of residents.
He also called for sustained unity among the four indigenous quarters of Odidi Community — Bostenumughan, Deribi, Keneyinbo and Tamiemene.
The newly inaugurated executive committee includes Comr.
