OHPRPH Backs Nwoko's Appointment as Chair of Senate Adhoc Committee on Crude Oil Theft

In a positive development for Nigeria's fight against crude oil theft, a civil society group, Organisations for Human and Peoples Rights Protection and Humanitarian (OHPRPH) has expressed strong support for the recent appointment of Senator Ned Nwoko as Chairman of the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on Crude Oil Theft.
In a statement signed by its National President, Comrade Ezekiel Kagbala and the Organization's Publicity Secretary/ PRO, Chief Mrs. Rosemary Ishioma Oshilim, highlighted the critical nature of Nwoko's new role, emphasizing the urgent need for effective measures to combat the rampant theft of crude oil, which has plagued Nigeria's economy and contributed to widespread environmental degradation.
"Senator Nwoko's appointment comes at a pivotal time when the nation is grappling with the consequences of oil theft, which not only robs the country of its resources but also undermines the livelihoods of countless citizens," she stated.
Oshilim praised Nwoko's track record as a dedicated public servant and his commitment to addressing pressing national issues. "His experience and passion for the welfare of the Nigerian people make him an ideal candidate to lead this committee. We believe that under his leadership, the committee will implement strategies that will not only curb oil theft but also promote transparency and accountability in the oil sector," she added.
Comrade Ezekiel Kagbala echoed Oshilim's sentiments, urging the Senate Committee to prioritize the establishment of robust frameworks that will deter oil theft and ensure that the nation's resources are utilized for the benefit of all Nigerians. "We call on Senator Nwoko to engage with stakeholders, including local communities, to develop comprehensive solutions that address the root causes of oil theft," Kagbala said.
