Port Harcourt Gas Explosion: Heroic, Yet Tragic Death of Ayo to Save 7-yrs Daughter 

In a tragic yet heroic incident, a father of two known as Ayo Moyosore made the ultimate sacrifice to save his daughter and son during gas explosion and eventual fire outbreak in Orazi Community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

FocalPoint Reports gathered that Ayo, who is a phone repairer, and his daughter died as a result of the severe burns they suffered from the explosion which took place on Saturday, 4th January 2025, when a gas cylinder exploded as a vendor was reportedly refilling a gas cylinder. 

Ayo escaped with a small burn when the fire started. He could not watch his daughter burn to death when he remembered that his daughter was in the fire. 

He entered the fire and rescued his daughter. He entered and brought her out. By this time the fire affected him severely. His whole body pilled off, and even his clothes got burnt off.

The father, Ayo Moyosore battled to stay alive as he walked to the hospital with his skin burnt off.

The already-rescued daughter eventually died, and so did her father. Ayo’s wife and son were in the hospital receiving treatment.

Father's love and courage displayed by Ayo was second to none. Ayo will be remembered as a man who put his loved ones above all else.

From biblical promises in the Christian hope, Ayo awaits resurrection by Jehovah's willing and in accordance with his righteous standing with Jehovah God. From human standpoint, he exemplified faith, hope, love, courage and good deeds. 

In the wake of this tragedy, gas safety and the importance of regular inspections became a focal point and should be observed by all. Those who have dealings close to gas stations or live in such areas should have a rethink.
