Ongoing Grand Finale of 2026 Amaseikumor Festival in Delta

Amaseikumor Festival was held today in Delta State, marked by the appearance of the revered Amaseikumor masquerade, a symbolic figure widely believed to usher in peace and blessings across the Gbaramatu Kingdom and the wider Ijaw nation.

The event is the climax of a week-long cultural and spiritual celebration taking place in Oporoza, the traditional headquarters of the Gbaramatu Kingdom. Central to the festivities is the Gbaraun Egbesu Annual Festival, a three-day religious and cultural observance dedicated to Egbesu, the principal deity of the Ijaw people, which reached its peak with large gatherings at the Gbaraun Egbesu Temple.

As the ceremonies unfolded, thousands of devotees, traditional rulers, cultural enthusiasts, and visiting tourists converged on the ancient temple grounds, reflecting the deep-rooted reverence for Egbesu and the enduring relevance of the festival as a focal point for spiritual renewal, cultural preservation, and communal unity.

The momentum of the celebration built up to its most anticipated moment—the colourful outing of the Egbesu Owu (Egbesu Masquerade). The sacred performance, rich in ritual symbolism and traditional expressions, held spectators spellbound and underscored the cultural depth and identity of the Ijaw people.

The grand finale not only highlights the resilience of indigenous traditions but also reinforces the Amaseikumor Festival’s role as a major cultural event that continues to attract attention within and beyond Ijaw land. Photos from the event were captured by FocalPoint Reports.@
