Civil society organisations, umbrella body of Delta Civil Society Organizations Forum DELCOF (non state actors) on monday condemned in strong terms the alleged killing of three police officers and carting away two AK 47 rifles at Okpanam community in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The chairman of the forum, Dr. Agboro Andrew made this known in a statement signed and made available to journalists.
The statement reads in part: “We condemn in strong terms the killing of three policemen whose carted two AK 47 rifles were taking away by men of the underworld. We sympathise with the Delta State Police command under
CP Ari Muhammed Ali who is the current Police Commissioner of police, Delta State and families of those who lost their lives serving this nation".
We are aware of similar incidents happening in other parts of the country as insecurity threatens the peace and unity that once characterized our existence.
DELCOF further revealed their committed efforts to support security operative and government at all level in the fight against insecurity through admocacy and collaborations.
It was however gathered that another policeman was seriously injured in the attack, and is currently admitted to an undisclosed hospital in the area.
It was further gathered that, the policemen were attacked at about 5 a.m, on sunday, July 23, 2022, shortly after driving out of Okpanam Police Division in response to a distressed call.
According to the source, the Divisional Police Officer of Okpanam Division, identified as Gambo, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) dispatched the team in response to a report by one Ruji that a vigilante in his street was being attacked.
The three deceased policemen were identified as Eke Francis, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP); Inspector Joshua Akengbo and Corporal Perekedo Unene while Bassey Wisdom, rank yet to be identified, sustained fatal injuries and receiving treatment.
