N-Delta Activist, Doboro Accuses Delta Council Chairmen of Neglecting Responsibilities

Comrade Mavelus Doboro, a prominent rights activist in the Niger Delta region, has publicly criticized local government chairmen in Delta State for their failure to fulfill essential civic duties.

The activist, in a statement he personally signed copies of which were made available to newsmen in Asaba, Doboro highlighted the alarming neglect of public amenities, particularly the lack of public toilets and proper sanitation in markets and public spaces.

He pointed out that many local government chairmen appear to be prioritizing non people oriented projects, such as constructing event centers, over their constitutional obligations to the communities they serve. "It is disheartening to see our local leaders neglecting their primary responsibilities while engaging in private ventures," Doboro stated. "The people deserve better than this."

The activist emphasized the urgent need for public conveniences, including clean and accessible toilets, as well as regular maintenance of existing markets and public areas. "The absence of these basic facilities not only compromises public health but also reflects a lack of respect for the dignity of the citizens," he added. "It is the duty of local government chairmen to ensure that our communities are clean, safe, and conducive for trade and social interaction."

He called on the Delta State government to hold local government chairmen accountable for their inaction and to prioritize the welfare of the electorate. "We must remind our leaders that they were elected to serve the people, not to enrich themselves through contracts and fraudulent projects," he asserted.
