The Niger Delta Civil Society Forum (NDCSF) has extended warm birthday felicitations to renowned Niger Delta leader, elder statesman and resource control advocate, Chief (Dr.) Wellington O. Okirika, CON, described him as "a father, an icon, a fearless Pan-African and one of the greatest champions of justice and equity for the oil-producing communities of Nigeria."

In a congratulatory message, signed on behalf of the forum by Ejiro Stella Bobo, the Founder of Delta Ijaw Women Political Forum and the Director of legal, Barr Mrs. Lilian Asukwo praised Chief Okirika's decades of selfless service to the Niger Delta, noting that his name has become synonymous with the struggle for resource justice, environmental equity and the advancement of the constitutional 13% Derivation Fund for oil-producing states and communities. He is widely known across the region as "Mr. 13% Derivation Fund" because of his prominent role in the campaign that led to the inclusion of the derivation principle in Nigeria's constitutional framework.

The Forum described the Bolowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom as a visionary leader who has consistently viewed Nigeria not through the lens of ethnic or regional divisions but through the opportunities for national unity, justice and equitable development.

According to the NDCSF, "Chief Dr. Wellington Okirika stood on the frontlines of the Niger Delta struggle when many chose silence. His courage, resilience and unwavering commitment to the rights of oil-producing communities have earned him respect across Nigeria."

The Forum noted that Chief Okirika has spent decades advocating for improved living conditions in the Niger Delta, greater participation of host communities in resource governance, environmental protection, community development and sustainable economic empowerment. His contributions extend beyond advocacy to public service, including leadership roles in regional development institutions and continued engagement on policy issues affecting the petroleum sector.

"Chief Okirika is a man who defies age," the statement continued. "With every passing year, he grows stronger, wiser and even more determined in his lifelong mission to restore dignity, justice and sustainable development to the Niger Delta. His life remains an inspiration to young leaders who believe in service above self."

The NDCSF also acknowledged the recent celebration of Chief Okirika's life and legacy across the Niger Delta, including the launch of his biography, which chronicles his journey of resilience, public service and advocacy for the region. Community leaders have described him as a guiding light whose influence spans traditional leadership, public policy and the pursuit of justice for marginalized communities.

As Chief Dr. Wellington Okirika marks another year, the Niger Delta Civil Society Forum prayed for God's continued blessings, good health, wisdom and strength upon his life.

"Happy Birthday to a father, a mentor, a patriot and an enduring symbol of courage. Your legacy will continue to inspire generations of Nigerians. We celebrate your remarkable contributions to the Niger Delta and to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. May Almighty God grant you many more years of impactful service."
