Nigeria @65: CEPEJ Launches Initiative to Foster National Identity Among Students, Pupils in Delta

The Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), in collaboration with K&Q Food Palace has marked Nigeria's 65th independence anniversary with a vibrant celebration aimed at empowering school students in Delta State to embrace their national identity. The event, held on Wednesday, brought together pupils and students from various schools in the area, fostering a sense of unity and patriotism.

The celebration took place at the popular Africa for peace games village, Ugolo near Osubi, Okpe local government area, Delta State as several schools attended and participated in the initiative launched by CEPEJ to empower students also referred to as primary and secondary learners.

Speaking to newsmen, the national coordinator of CEPEJ Chief Sheriff Mulade, in his statement underscored the significance of such gatherings in fostering unity and promoting peace among the young minds. He stated, "Events like these are crucial in building a sense of belonging and pride in our nation. It is important to guide the younger generation towards understanding the values of independence to our country."

Overall, the celebration at the Africa for Peace Games Village was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended and inspiring the next generation to embrace their roles as ambassadors of peace and unity as the event featured quiz competition, parades and award of various prizes. 

Speaking of the significance of the celebration, Mr Ezekiel David of Good Shepherd schools Orerokpe, highlighted the importance of patriotism, civic responsibility, community engagement and encouraging students to take pride in their heritage and to actively participate in nation-building efforts.

K&Q Food Palace, a key partner in the celebration, provided refreshments and meals for the attendees, ensuring that the students enjoyed a festive atmosphere. According to Ezekiel David; "Learners at primary and secondary school at the end were able to get a message home on the purpose of independence to Nigeria and Nigerians".

Also, the proprietress of Life Gate Schools Orerokpe, Mrs Queen Effion Said; "It reminds our children that we were under colonisation and some time, our forefathers fought for independence and got it. 

"Today we are a free nation, celebrating today reminds our children of the success and teaches our children to strive for success, aspirations, resilience and focus to a goal.

"We expressed gratitude to CEPEJ for making all the school owners and learners happy".
