The Niger Delta Youth Council (NDYC), a sociopolitical group in the South South region, Led by Chief Bene Mamamu has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to intensify efforts at ensuring that the newly resuscitated Warri Refining & Petrochemicals Company (WRPC) operates at full capacity.

Bené Mamamu of NDYC, while commending the President for successfully revamping the hitherto moribund refinery, noted with delight that an ultimate capacity production at the local Refineries will give a boost to the national economy.

"It will be a great boost for the nation's economy and the Niger Delta region if the 60,000 barrel per day old Port Harcourt Refinery and the 125,000 barrels per day Warri Refinery could produce consistently to use the country's energy demand and eventually push down the price of petroleum products", the council said.

This was contained in a statement signed by the council's President, Comrade Bene Youkore Mamamu, a.k.a. Young Chief, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri, Delta State on Sunday.

The NDYC boss specifically lauded the Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPCL, Mele Kyari "for his notable commitment to the resuscitation of the two Refineries in the Niger Delta region".

The NDYC boss Bene Mamamu however maintained that "full capacity operations at the Refineries, including loading out of premium motor spirit, PMS for consumption will add the much needed value to the Nigerian economy".

The statement partly reads, "If the four refineries in the country are restored to full operational capacity, the issue of economic hardship would be addressed to an appreciable extent.

"More importantly, the Refinery’s potential to create employment opportunities for thousands of youths, particularly in the Niger Delta region is something worth celebrating.

"And we demand job opportunities for Niger Delta youths in the Refineries".

The Council, while celebrating the achievement, stressed the importance of addressing other pressing issues in the Niger Delta including environmental degradation, unemployment, and equitable resource allocation.
