The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Security Matters, Chief Frank Akiefa, has extolled the contributions of Engr. Matthew Tonlagha, describing him as a shining example of indigenous enterprise and a catalyst for economic transformation in the Niger Delta.

In a statement issued on Friday, Akiefa commended Tonlagha for his sustained investments in critical sectors and his commitment to job creation, noting that his efforts have provided meaningful opportunities for thousands of youths across the region. He urged prominent Ijaw sons and daughters, both at home and in the diaspora, to emulate Tonlagha by channeling resources into ventures that uplift communities and expand economic prospects.

Akiefa highlighted Tonlagha’s journey from grassroots leadership in Benikrukru Community to becoming a respected figure in Nigeria’s oil and gas ecosystem. According to him, Tonlagha’s early involvement in community relations and stakeholder engagement laid the foundation for a career defined by trust, strategic thinking, and impact.

Through MATON Engineering Nigeria Limited, Tonlagha has built a diversified business spanning engineering, construction, maritime, and security services—positioning the company as a major indigenous employer and contributor to regional development. His role in strengthening oil asset protection efforts in the Niger Delta has also been widely acknowledged for helping to stabilise production and boost national revenue.

Beyond business, Akiefa praised Tonlagha’s humanitarian footprint, citing his investments in education, skills development, and support for vulnerable groups as evidence of a leadership style anchored in compassion and community growth.

“Matthew Tonlagha represents the kind of visionary leadership the Niger Delta needs—one that combines enterprise with social responsibility,” Akiefa said, stressing that sustainable development in the region depends on collective commitment from its people.

He concluded by reiterating the need for increased private-sector participation in regional development, noting that individuals like Tonlagha demonstrate how local capacity can drive both economic progress and social stability.
