Civil Society Forum urge Okowa to take action as Insecurity Threatens Delta Communities

 Delta State Civil Society Forum (DELCOF) umbrella body of Non-State Actors has called on the Government led by Sen Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to focus on addressing security challenge that is gradually taking roots in parts of the state.

Chairman of the forum, Dr Agboro Andrew made the call on monday in Warri after he was briefed on the deplorable situation that is currently threatens some Communities in Ughelli South Local Government
Area in the state.

The Chairman noted that he was informed about recent upsurge of kidnapping, robbery, killing and cult clashes that is currently affects residents, farmers and businesses owners in Egbo-Uhurie, Ekrokpe, Usiefurun and adjourning Communities within Ughelli South LGA.

Dr. Agboro who highlighted the Implications for business activities and sustainable economic development of the area and the state noted that if not quickly addressed, situation may soon threaten food production and businesses activities in the affected areas, as farmers are scared of farming.

He further stated that, the rate of crime, cultism and insecurity in the State is relatively increasing adding that, "War against insecurity can be won only by raising governance where the government is responsible and accountable to the people"

"Peace and security are determined by good governance which is a function of effective, visionary, transparent, trustworthy, and credible political leadership whose driving force is an improvement in the collective wellbeing of the citizens"

"Security could be achieved through well-conceived, effectively implemented economic policies and human development programs"

 “It is obvious that without security there can be no development and without development there can be no security; what stand at the interception of security and development is good governance"

"Gov Okowa should critically look into the security challenges  the State currently faces, stating  that Delta State is not harnessing the latest technologies for productivity enhancements, as demonstrated by its low rates of ICT penetration"

"There is need to modernize the security agencies with training, intelligence sharing, advanced technology, logistics, motivation, and change of orientation"

"Efforts should be made to enhance operational capabilities of security agencies by identifying avenues that would enable them to respond appropriately to internal security challenges and other threats".

He called on citizens and residents of Delta State to kindly support Gov Okowa led administration and security agencies to nip it at the bud.
