The Nigerian Society of Engineers Warri Branch has spotlighted Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited as a practical success model in tackling crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism across the Niger Delta, as industry experts called for urgent adoption of technology-driven and community-based security solutions.

This formed a key outcome of the Branch’s 3rd Public Lecture held on Friday, March 20, 2026, themed “Engineering Security and Safety in the Oil and Gas Industry.” The event drew Engineers, academia, and stakeholders from across the sector, and was broadcast live on multiple platforms, reflecting its national relevance.

Rising concerns over escalating security threats in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry dominated discussions, with experts identifying infrastructure sabotage, illegal refining activities, and cybersecurity vulnerabilities as critical risks undermining the sector. They warned that traditional security approaches are increasingly ineffective in addressing the complex and evolving nature of these threats.

A major highlight of the lecture was the recognition of the Federal Government initiative in community engagement by engaging Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited. The security company was recognized for its measurable impact since its engagement in 2022. Stakeholders noted that the firm has made significant gains in surveillance and monitoring of oil facilities, leading to a reduction in crude oil theft and environmental pollution in affected communities.

The NSE Warri Branch commended the company’s results-oriented and community-inclusive strategy, describing it as a model that complements engineering solutions in safeguarding critical infrastructure. According to participants, Tantita’s integration of local intelligence, grassroots participation, and on-ground enforcement has strengthened pipeline security while also improving socioeconomic conditions in host communities.

The expert panel, moderated by Engr. (Mrs.) Queen Chigbo, MNSE, MNISafetyE, the Vice Chairman, NSE Warri Branch, featured seasoned professionals including Engr. Spencer Itive, MNSE, MNISafetyE, the Chairman Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers, Delta State Chapter and Engr. Idiata Stephen FNSE FNISafetyE, a seasoned professional with over 30 years in the Industry. They advocated a holistic security framework anchored on advanced surveillance systems, real-time monitoring technologies, predictive maintenance, and data-driven decision-making.

The speakers emphasized that modern engineering must extend beyond physical infrastructure to incorporate digital intelligence and human collaboration. They stressed that sustainable security outcomes in the oil and gas sector can only be achieved through a synergy of technology, professional expertise, and active community involvement.

Participants further called for stronger multi-stakeholder collaboration involving government, industry operators, and host communities. They underscored the importance of environmentally responsible engineering practises, particularly in oil spill response and mitigation of ecological damage in the Niger Delta.

In its closing remarks, The Branch Chairman, the Nigerian Society of Engineers Warri Branch ,Engr. Chief Benjamin ESI, FNSE, reaffirmed the critical role of engineers in protecting national assets, ensuring operational safety, and advancing Nigeria’s energy sustainability.
