Gov. Oborevwori's Aide, Diana Ereyitomi Leads SDGs Summer Camp for Children in Delta

As part of initiative to foster sustainable development awareness among young people, the Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Lady Diana Ereyitomi Eyo-Enoette has successfully organized the second edition of the Delta SDGs Summer Camp.


The SDGs Summer Camp, held in Sapele Delta State, August 4 to 8, 2025, brought together over 80 children from across the three senatorial zones of the State, providing them with invaluable insights into sustainable practices and community development as Participants were involved in various activities, including workshops, discussions, and hands-on projects that emphasized the importance of sustainability, environmental conservation, and social responsibility.

Lady Diana Ereyitomi Eyo-Enoette, who spearheaded the event, emphasized the importance of community involvement in achieving the SDGs atributed the sucess to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori's commitment to empower youths, children with knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to enable them become champions of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Programme which has the theme: “From Awareness to Action.” Highlights this year’s camp programme which includes included, Waste-to-Wealth, climate action and workshops by the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE)

Full healthcare services and wellness education from the Delta State Ministry of Health. First aid training by the Nigerian Red Cross. Mental health awareness sessions by DEEVOICE. Drug prevention outreach by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Entrepreneurship training led by John Iyoha. AI, crochet, and modeling sessions by Queen Success, Queen of Delta State 33. Leadership and character-building sessions by Scout representatives. 

Others are Faith-based sessions and prayers by the Delta State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). Live media engagements via Delta State Broadcasting Service (DBS) and Megastar Media. “More Through SDGs Kids Radio”  a live, child-led radio production.

A debate on “The Role of Citizens in Community Development and Peace”

A statewide chess tournament tagged “Brains & Wit” led by Camp Director Francis Eyo-Enoette and Abolade. One of the key moments during the programme was the awarding of a one-year scholarship by CPIM to out-of-school children, in line with SDG 4, which focuses on quality education.

Special recognition was given to, Dr. Chief Godday Erewa, grand sponsor and Global SDG 4 Champion. Chief Bright Abeke, Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, and Mrs. Diane Abeke, for their generous support. Hon. Orode Meyiwa Uduaghan, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl-Child Development, recognised as a global girl-child and SDGs champion

Chief Daniel Ivwighren, Director-General of the Delta State Directorate of SDGs, for his strategic leadership. The programme also received support from various partners including BRadE Events, Chef Buffy, Agropadi, CPMI, Ade Mabo Foundation, Southern Women Empowerment Forum, and the staff of Valley Stream British School, which hosted the camp.

Speaking during the camp, Lady Diana Eyo-Enoette said, “Children do not have to wait until they’re grown to make a difference. They are citizens of now.”

Also speaking, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, said, “Delta State remains consciously committed to the development of its citizenry. From engaging community and traditional leaders to empowering children and youths, we are determined to listen, act, and truly leave no one behind.”
