Hunger: Why Tinubu's Government Should Not Take Nigerians For Granted

 EDITORIAL

By Ezekiel Kagbala

Nigerian governments have a fundamental obligation to cater to the people. It is the spirit of Section 14 (2b) of the 1999 Constitution, “The security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government”, not the purchase of expensive SUVs for lawmakers.

The government of President Tinubu is performing woefully when it comes to addressing hardship, insecurity, infrastructure, and citizen's welfare. Millions of Nigerians are wallowing in squalor, penury, and unparalleled hardship. It is time for Mr. President to know that there is a limit to the hardship the people can endure,
If Nigerians are continually taken for granted, civil disobedience will be inevitable.

Under President Bola Tinubu's watching, Nigerians are suffering and enduring pains without gain, his ability to give Nigerians a better deal is in the spectrum of a rancorous policy inconsistency and misdirection.

There is no significant effort on the part of  Mr President to ease the pains of the people. As the saying goes, when the head is rotten, nothing good can come out of the body, the infamy of running an expensive government at the top is being copied by government at all levels, from state to local government,

The flamboyancy of Nigerian politicians in positions have impoverished the entire country, they are not willing to make sacrifices by cutting down on the cost of governance.
By all stands, Mr. President should know that cutting the cost of governance is an immediate solution to the problem, there is no need to subject Nigerians to hunger in the name of economic reforms. people have to be alive to enjoy the medium and long-term results of economic reforms.

Tinubu's Government laid a foundation of failure with the purchase of expensive SUVs for lawmakers instead of moderate vehicles, N90 billion federal government’s Hajj subsidy, and bogus list of federal appointees.

As a way forward, Tinubu should revisit his antipeople economic policies, tackle corruption, and address inflation that has occasioned hardship in the country.
