Mulade Hails Court Judgment on Okuama Detainees, Calls for Peace, Reconciliation

Renowned peace ambassador, environmental rights advocate, and development crusader, Chief (Comrade) Sheriff Mulade, has welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Warri concerning individuals detained in connection with the Okuama military incident, describing the decision as a major step towards justice, healing, and reconciliation.
Mulade, who is the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Warri Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, made the remarks in a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday.
He said the court's ruling has renewed hope for affected families and reinforced public confidence in the rule of law, due process, and the nation's justice system.
According to him, the judgment represents an important milestone in efforts to address the challenges arising from the crisis and provides an opportunity for communities to embrace reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.
"The court's decision is a significant step towards justice, healing, and the restoration of confidence in our democratic institutions. It offers hope to families and communities affected by the unfortunate incident while reaffirming the importance of fairness and due process," he said.
Mulade commended the judiciary for its commitment to justice and urged all stakeholders to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed to promoting peace and unity across Delta State.
He stressed that lasting peace remains the foundation for sustainable development, economic growth, and social stability, noting that communities can only achieve meaningful progress in an atmosphere of harmony and mutual understanding.
The peace advocate specifically appealed to the people of Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area and neighbouring communities to embrace reconciliation and strengthen efforts towards peaceful coexistence.
He noted that the events surrounding the Okuama crisis should serve as a lesson to communities across Delta State on the need to prioritize dialogue, understanding, and peaceful conflict resolution over violence and confrontation.
Mulade further called on traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, women, and other stakeholders to work collectively towards rebuilding trust, strengthening relationships, and creating an environment conducive to development and prosperity.
"Peace is the foundation upon which meaningful development is built. I urge the people of Okuama and their neighbours to seize this opportunity to deepen reconciliation, promote unity, and work together for the collective advancement of their communities and Delta State at large," he stated.
Expressing optimism about the future, Mulade said genuine commitment to peace, forgiveness, and mutual respect would enable the affected communities to emerge stronger and more united.
He also prayed for continued peace, security, and development in Delta State and the wider Niger Delta region, while encouraging residents to support initiatives aimed at promoting harmony, justice, and sustainable development.
The NDC chieftain further appealed to Deltans to continue supporting the administration of Sheriff Oborevwori in its efforts to deliver on its development agenda and electoral promises for the benefit of the people.
Mulade expressed confidence that through collective commitment to peace and development, Delta State would continue to make progress in addressing its challenges and improving the welfare of its citizens.
