Mulade Tasks Govt, Stakeholders on Peace, Unveil Trophies for Ijaw/Itsekiri Football Cup 2022 In Delta

The National Coordinator, of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, Chief Sheriff Mulade, has called on Delta State Government, cooperate Organizations Community leaders, and stakeholders to initiate and promote programs geared toward peaceful coexistence in the state.

Chief Mulade Sheriff made this known on Wednesday, during the official opening ceremony and unveiling of trophies, medals, bronze, and cash prizes for the Ijaw/Itsekiri Peace and Unity Football Tournament at Africa for Peace Center, CEPEJ’s Head Office, Ugolo-Okpe near Warri Delta State.

Mulade who is the organizer of the competition and member of the Local Organising Committee scheduled the tournament for 16th the of November 2022, to mark the International Day of Tolerance in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal –SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and then climax on the 3rd of December, 2022.

Community Representatives from 16 Ijaw/Itsekiri towns and their football committees were given Jerseys, football, and other items worth millions of Naira to motivate and enable them to prepare for the games.  

Made in his opening remarks disclosed that; the Football Tournament is not a politically sponsored program, rather, it is an initiative put in place to promote peaceful coexistence between Ijaw's and Itsekiri living in the three Warri LGAs of the State.

He said; "The purpose of this competition is to promote continuous peaceful coexistence among the Ijaws and Itsekiri and also create an enabling environment for development, especially in Warri.
Programs should be in place to create and strengthen peace and restore the lost glory of Warri.

"This initiative is not political but a deliberate effort to harness talent in the Creeks. Beyond promoting unity, the game is fashioned to discover and promote talent, it's a complete local football, politicians within our domain have been invited, and they could support the program, unity is everyone's business.

"We have the rules that are also in tune with FIFA as applicable to every football games, play by the rules, Don't Join another Community if your Community has played and lost, that could lead to disqualification of the playing Community, all participants in the games have something to go home with so let us keep it friendly".
