Ebonyi DPP: Mary Habila Found Naked, Lifeless in Minister Umahi's Residence With Blood Around Nose, Mouth

The Ebonyi State Ministry of Justice have shed new light on the mysterious death of 26-year-old Mary Habila, whose lifeless body was discovered inside the Uburu residence of the 0 nose and mouth, raising serious questions about the circumstances surrounding her sudden death.

According to Sahara Reporters, legal advice, addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Ebonyi State Police Command, followed the police investigation into the incident, which occurred on June 27.

The DPP noted that the available evidence showed Habila was alone in her apartment when she was found dead. Investigators also found no indication that she had been ill or suffered from any known medical condition before her death.

"The evidence available shows that the deceased was alone at the time she was found dead in her apartment. She laid lifeless on the floor of her apartment naked with blood stain on her nose and mouth," the legal advice stated.

The document further emphasized that Habila appeared healthy and "full of life" before returning to Uburu with her team, making her sudden death even more puzzling.

"There was no evidence that the deceased was indisposed, sick or unstable health wise prior to her sudden death," the DPP noted.

Describing the case as one requiring scientific investigation, the DPP said the key question before investigators was the actual cause of Habila's death, stressing that only a post-mortem examination could provide definitive answers and guide the police investigation.

The Ministry of Justice consequently advised the police to either respect the family's position or invoke their statutory powers to conduct an autopsy in the interest of justice.

The development comes amid reports that investigators received information suggesting members of Habila's family were allegedly being pressured not to insist on an autopsy.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force has not announced the cause of Mary Habila's death, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing.
