Delta LG Polls: Tension grips Burutu PDP over alleged imposition of Chairmanship candidate as Frank Akeinfa set to lead mass defection
By Ezekiel Kagbala
As the race towards the July 13, 2024 Local Government Council elections in Delta State gather momentum, tension has gripped the Burutu Local Government chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over alleged imposition of Chairmanship candidate on the constituents.
A PDP chieftain in the locality, Chief Frank Akeinfa, on Friday raised the alarm of impending defection of party faithful in the area following the alleged Chairmanship candidate imposition.
Speaking shortly after a meeting with some party stakeholders in the area, Frank Akeinfa, stated with concern that "the adoption process of Chief Julius Takeme as the consensus candidate of the Party for Burutu Local Government council in the upcoming election was not transparent, free, fair and credible".
He noted that he might be compelled to "lead massive defection of stakeholders and members from the PDP in Burutu LGA in protest against the imposition, if the needful is not done"..
He said, "There there will be a tsunami in the next few weeks in Burutu PDP. And I will lead the defection.
"You could see aggrieved members of the PDP in Burutu LGA. They are not ready to say anything because they are preparing to move out of PDP. Nothing could be farther from the truth that Takeme was imposed on Burutu people.
"I am a very loyal party member that everybody wants to listen to me on this issue".
It would be recalled that Akeinfa had recently expressed total disappointment at the manner in which the party adopted Takeme as its consensus chairmanship candidate for Burutu LGA.
He lamented that the way and manner of his adoption was not acceptable to all especially aspirants who started early with their consultations.
Akeinfa however disclosed that he would schedule a meeting with the State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Obovrevwori over the chairmanship election and seek clarifications over what informed the party's choice of candidate in Burutu LGA.
"Burutu is my Local Government and I am a stakeholder in the party. And if no clear-cut explanation is given, I will start by dividing PDP in Burutu and lead the exodus", he stated.
