Delta Police Secure Conviction of 16 for Vandalism, Theft of Government Property, Drug Possession

ASABA — The Delta State Police Command has secured the conviction of 16 male suspects for offences bordering on criminal conspiracy, theft and vandalism of government property, as well as unlawful possession of prohibited drugs.

The convictions were secured on July 15, 2026, at Magistrate Court 3, Asaba, where the defendants were each sentenced to three years' imprisonment at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the convicts were prosecuted for criminal conspiracy, theft of iron rods belonging to the Delta State Government, and wilful and malicious damage to government property, contrary to the Criminal Code Law of Delta State.

The police also disclosed that the suspects were convicted for unlawful possession of 20 cups of Colorado (Kolos), a prohibited substance under the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act.

The convicted persons are Yaro Abdul (25), Mohammed Isah (31), Hassan Jato (23), Azeez Bello (18), Duru Lawrence (27), Tijani Hassan (23), Muasu Alabo (27), Lawal Zardi (18), Gambo Abdul (18), Ali Musa (21), Musa Abdul (18), Umuru Kasa (19), Gaga Amos (25), Sani Garuba (18), Hanza Garuba (24), and Abdul Ahi Jubrin (18).

Commending the successful investigation and prosecution, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, said the convictions underscore the Command's determination to protect critical public infrastructure and combat criminal activities across the state.

He stressed that the judgment sends a strong warning to individuals involved in vandalism, theft of public assets, and drug-related crimes that such offences will attract the full weight of the law.

The police boss further reaffirmed the Command's commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations aimed at safeguarding government property, tackling criminality, and maintaining law and order throughout Delta State.
