Ijaw Youth Leader, Akiefa Issues Warning Against Smear Campaigns Targeting PAP Boss, Dennis Otuaro

A prominent youth leader within the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Chief (Comrade) Frank Akiefa has issued a stern warning to groups and individuals engaged in smear campaigns against Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).
Akiefa's remarks come in the wake of criticism and unfounded allegations by a faction that styled itself as “The Reformed Niger Delta Ex-Agitators Forum,” led by Owoupele Eneoriekumoh Owous against Otuaro.
In a statement he personally signed on Wednesday, copies of which were made available to newsmen in Warri, Delta State Akiefa noted that the amnesty programme has been positioned and reformed to facilitate the reintegration of former militants into society, and there has been significant reforms and innovations under Otuaro's leadership.
"The smear campaigns against Dr. Otuaro are not only baseless but also detrimental to the progress we have made in the region," Akiefa stated. "We must recognize the positive impact of the amnesty programme and support the efforts of those working tirelessly to ensure its success."
Under Otuaro's administration, the PAP has implemented various initiatives that have contributed to a more balanced and effective approach to peacebuilding in the Niger Delta. These include vocational training programs, educational scholarships, and community development projects that have empowered youth and reduced the allure of militancy.
Akiefa emphasized the importance of unity among the Ijaw people and urged stakeholders to focus on constructive dialogue rather than engaging in divisive tactics. "We cannot afford to let misinformation and negativity derail the progress we have achieved. It is crucial for all of us to rally behind the amnesty programme and support Dr. Otuaro in his mission to bring about sustainable peace and development in our region," he added.
