Niger Delta activist, (Amb) Chief Comrade Bene Mamamu, has lauded the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori led Government in Delta State over its efforts in resolving the age-long boundary dispute between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities in Udu and Warri South-West Local Government Areas respectively.
Mamamu noted that the terms of resolution was "for the greater good of all Deltans" just as he disagreed with media comments attributed to a group that styled itself as Aladja People's Movement for Peace.
The group had purportedly stated that "the long-standing boundary dispute between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities in Udu and Warri South-West Local Government Areas in Delta State has not been resolved".
Mamamu, in a signed statement, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri on Saturday, April 13th, 2024 remarked that "Delta State Government's position over the boundary dispute between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh should be respected, obeyed, and complied with".
According to the notable activist, "decent and non-troublesome members of the Communities will listen and obey the fair and firm position of the State government and abide by its decision to resolve the age-long crises for the greater good of all Deltans".
While noting that "there was no forceful acquisition" of Aladja Community land by the Sheriff Oborevwori led Delta State Government, Mamamu urged the group and its sponsors to "stop making comments that are capable of jeopardizing the efforts of the Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Obovrevwori to restore lasting peace between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh Communities in Udu and Warri South-West Local Government Areas in the State".
Mamamu also advised the group's Coordinator, Comrade Simon Sibitor and Comrade Ejovwo Tietie to "learn from Okoloba and Okuama saga, and embrace peace", just as he cautioned them on the repercussions of trying to lock horns with the State Government by any means that they have planned.
He enjoined them to leave out the Ijaw nation and the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, from the Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh crisis.
"The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley was only doing his job and should not be dragged by any misguided group",
Mamamu stated further, "It is abnormal and unparalleled absurdity to threaten to fight the State government for putting up measures for lasting peace in both communities.
"As it stands, too many lives have been lost and the businesses of crisis is not good.
"The group should look for other means of livelihood rather than hiding behind community name to cause trouble for unreasonable gains.
"Governor Oborevwori's led Delta State Government is hereby commended for resolving the boundary dispute.
"The State would be justified if it chooses to invoke the instrumentality of its power to deal decisively with individuals who seek to disrupt peace by intimidating the State Government".
