Students Shine as Mulade Hosts 9th Quiz, Essay Competition in Delta South
The 9th Sheriff Mulade Quiz and Essay Competition has ended successfully in Delta South Senatorial District, with outstanding performances from participating students who received cash prizes and scholarship promises.
The event, organized by peace and environmental advocate Sheriff Mulade, brought together secondary school students to test their knowledge, critical thinking, and writing abilities through quiz and essay segments.
In the junior quiz category, Odo-Okun Secondary School emerged winner with ₦250,000, followed by Otibio Grammar School with ₦200,000, and Ogulagha Secondary School in third place with ₦150,000.
The competition covered subjects such as English, Mathematics, CRS, Basic Science, and Prevocational Studies.
In the senior essay category, centered on the topic “Peace and Conflict Resolution: The Impact on Education,” Okpe Isoko Grammar School won first place with ₦150,000.
Egbokodo Secondary School placed second with ₦100,000, while Kokodiagbene Secondary School came third with ₦75,000.
Speaking at the event, Mulade said the programme aims to promote education, unity, and confidence among young people, especially in rural and riverine communities.
He also announced scholarship support for outstanding students.
He further called on government to improve conditions in riverine areas by providing incentives for teachers and constructing teachers’ quarters to encourage retention in hard-to-reach communities.
Mulade noted that the initiative, which began in Kokodiagbene, was created to expand access to education and promote peace through learning and sports activities across communities.
Teachers and participants commended the programme, describing it as impactful and calling for its expansion across Delta State.
