The Niger Delta Youth Council (NDYC), has called on the President-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to prioritise appointment of young people into the ministerial and other top government positions, under his watch.

The group made the call in an open letter to Tinubu, signed by its President, Comr. Bene Youkore Mamamu, a.k.a. Young Chief, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri, Delta State on Friday.

“We want youths as governors, ministers, heads of parastatals, lawmakers in state assemblies, and local government chairmen", the NDYC stated.

The Niger Delta Youth Council, which is an affiliate of the National Youth Council of Nigeria and other youth groups in Nigeria, specifically requested that youth bodies in the country should be considered for appointment into the cabinet of the incoming President.

According to the NDYC, "youths from every region of the country, most especially Niger Delta should be the focal point for consideration when the President-elect is sworn in".

For emphasis, the group listed such youth bodies as including the Arewa Youth Council of the Hausa-speaking aborigines, the Afenifere National Youth Council, the Ohanaeze Youth Council, the Ijaw Youth Council, and most especially, the Niger Delta Youths Council (NDYC) and other notable bodies across the nation.

The Niger Delta Youths Council noted that immediately the President-elect is sworn in, Nigerians are expecting fast economic reforms in job creation, power, education, technology, social welfare as well as creation of more opportunities for Niger Delta youths "hence the readiness of NDYC to contribute to the success of Tinubu's administration by initiating programmes geared at national development and productive engagement of youths".
