OML 42: Fresh Hostilities loom in Oil Rich Delta Community, Provocation in Odidi Over Neglect

The People of Oil rich Odidi Federated Community in Warri South West Local Gov­ernment Area of Delta State have expressed anger, stating that they are considering an ultimatum and inevitable Protests.

The community chairman, Prince Preye Okrikpa conducted news men around the Community yesterday, Monday February 8, 2022 where he lamented that the government have completely neglected Odidi in every ramifications of Development. 

Youths in Odidi Also expressed bitterness that the Federal Government, Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and Delta State Government have neglected them. Their living condition was deplorable and pitiable.

The chairman also added that the community could not boast of any project despite being an oil-producing area with over one hundred oil wells hosting the Nigerian Petroleum Development company, NPDC, Neconde Energy and their subsidiaries.

Poluted Enviroment of Odidi

FocalPoint Reports gathered that  there are several oil related activities taking place at the compay yards with oil vessels belting around the coastline.

It was observed that Gas fleeing, oil exploration was seriously taking place with little or no measures in place to care for the developmental needs of their host Community.

A representative of the Community, Pastor Ebibide Akure who spoke in anger said that, "The area that produce large quantity of oil and gas for the economic enrichment of the country, Nigeria and Delta State is relegated and relegated to the background"

" It is provocative that all that we have to show for producing the oil is neglect, Environmental degradation. The situation of Odidi is worst than that of Oloibiri in Bayelsa and Ogoni land in Rivers State. No single project by NPDC or any of the oil companies operating in this odidi is visible. Government and oil companies have neglected us"

"We need infrastructural and human capital development, we need sholarship for our students, 
we cannot continue to suffer like this, gas flaring in this area has ruined lives, businesses and the environment the government, NDDC, oil companies should do something urgent".
