It was a carnival-like atmosphere on Sunday, December 14, 2025, as women elders and youths from across Ughelli South Local Government Area openly endorsed Prince Temienor Oghenekevwe for the 2027 Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) election, citing his consistent grassroots empowerment initiatives and people-focused leadership style.

Prince Temienor, a chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the party’s candidate for Ughelli South Constituency in the 2023 general elections, formally declared his intention to contest the House of Assembly seat again in 2027. The declaration took place at his country home in Eyara community, during a special appreciation dinner organised for women from Otu-Jeremi, Imode and Eyara communities.

The event attracted a massive turnout of women in organised groups, elders and youths, who converged from different parts of the constituency in a show of solidarity and early endorsement of the SDP aspirant. The gathering featured music, prayers and goodwill messages, underscoring the strong bond between the aspirant and the grassroots.

As part of his empowerment drive, Prince Temienor announced scholarships for ten pupils and students from the constituency, a gesture that was greeted with loud applause and jubilation, particularly from the women, who described the intervention as timely and impactful. He also distributed food items and cash support to women, elders and youths, further reinforcing his commitment to easing economic hardship at the community level.

Addressing the gathering, Prince Temienor expressed deep appreciation for the overwhelming support and large turnout, describing it as a clear sign that the people were ready for purposeful representation.

“I contested the 2023 election on the platform of the SDP and emerged third,” he said. “This time, I am better prepared—not just to contest, but to win in 2027. If given the mandate, I will attract massive development to all communities in Ughelli South and work tirelessly to liberate our people from abject poverty.”

He assured the women, elders and youths that his long-standing relationship with the communities would be strengthened, adding that inclusive governance, human capital development and grassroots empowerment would remain the core of his legislative agenda.

Speaking on behalf of the women groups, Mrs. Rosline Ogide from Jeremi Ward 2 passed a vote of confidence on Prince Temienor Oghenekevwe, declaring him the preferred choice of women across the constituency. She commended his consistency, accessibility and history of supporting women and vulnerable groups, while offering prayers for divine guidance and victory in the 2027 election.

In a similar vein, elders of Eyara community, led by the oldest man in the community, Pa Tomson Miyerijesu, offered traditional prayers and blessings for the aspirant. Pa Miyerijesu described Prince Temienor as a son of the soil who understands the pains of the people and deserves the opportunity to represent Ughelli South at the state assembly.

Women leaders from Imode community, including Mrs. Evlin Samuel, Mrs. Mary Otaoghene and Mrs. Elizabeth Sunny Tiborkapor Ekpo, also expressed their support, praising the SDP chieftain for his empowerment initiatives and commitment to community development.
