A political pressure group in Delta State, Urhobo Progressive Agenda (UPA) led by Comrade Onoriode Umukoro, on sunday, reacted to a rumour that, Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) has endorsed David Edebvie as Consensus Candidate of Urhobo's for the People's Democratic Party PDP in the 2023 governorship election.
In a statement made available to this medium, UPA spokesperson, Chief Oteri Akpuguma noted that the Urhobo nation is firmly with Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi as the frontline aspirant who is at the forefront of championing Urhobo's interest as regards Zoning the 2023 Governorship to Delta Central.
In his statement, he warned that nobody should test the quietness of Chief Kenneth Gbagi who has been endorsed before other aspirants.
UPA said that, "As an apex Urhobo socio-cultural group, Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), should imbibe the culture and tenets of democracy, It is to the detriment of Stakeholders, aspirats and internal democracy for UPU to handpick David Edebvie for Delta State governorship in the name of Urhobo's"
"Urhobo nation should not be armtwisted into probating and rebaiting at the-same time. DC-23 has subjected aspirants to a rigorous screening exercise which brought about the emergence of Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, Sheriff Oborevwori, and David Edevbie as the three aspirants to be accepted by the entire Urhobo nation"
"At the end of that DC-23 screening, the report submitted showed that, three aspirants were qualified and suitable for the job, Why not allow them to have a level playing field promised by Governor Okowa"
"Governor Okowa should be told to allow the Urhobo Nation to choose their preferred candidate in a democratic process that is free fair and credible not backdoor arrangements"
"UPU should not base their decision of a consensus candidate on the bases of he being the ‘chosen’ one in a political family of former governor, the highest bidder or presenter of the highest filthy lucre to so-called leaders in the body"
"It is Pitiable that element of dictatorship and dishonest gains have made consensus and endorsement a selection process rather than an electoral process that ought to be free fair and credible"
"For now, UPU cannot proceed on such sensles political adventure that is destructive. we expect them to refute the propaganda of the 'backyard' endorsement, nobody should test the quietness of Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi". he warned.
