UGHELLI.....The Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the March 18 gubernatorial election in Delta state, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi OON, FNIM has filed a 79-page petition at the state Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, challenging the declaration of the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori as the winner of the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the State.

Gbagi’s counsel Magaji Mato, SAN, disclosed that the petition was hinged on three grounds.

According to him “We are maintaining three basic grounds; one is that all the other parties and their candidates are not qualified. Secondly, the election itself was not conducted in line with the Electoral Act and other statutory provisions. Finally, it was marred with massive rigging and other electoral malpractices.

Gbagi also dragged the Deputy Senate President of Nigeria, Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Great Ogboru of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Labour Party candidate, Kennedy Pella and their parties to the election tribunal sitting in Asaba, FocalPoint Reports gathered.

The former minister of education, Gbagi prayed shortly after filling the petition accompanied by his counsel, Magaji Mato Ibrahim (SAN), to remove those he called rascals and others who have nothing to do with the election.

According to him, "A lot of malpractices including vote buying, distribution of food and wrappers to voters were obvious during the election which he said, were parts of the crime against the electoral act".

He maintained that the number of votes allocated to candidates was not realistic with the election, believing that by the grace of God, justice will prevail.

“Many people thought it was business as usual, we didn’t go into this election for a joke. Don’t forget I founded PDP in 1999 in Delta state, so I had taken my time and by the grace of God, justice will prevail.”
