Delta 2023: It's Time to Work Within DC-23 Selection, Deltans Are Waiting on Okowa to Make the Right Choice

By Ezekiel Kagbala

In December 5, 2021, Our Legendary Governor, Sen, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, during the 90th anniversary of Urhobo Progress Union UPU, urged the President-General, Chief Moses Tiaga to prune down the number of persons from Delta Central who are jostling to succeed him in 2023. The Urhobo nation took that recommendation seriously and did just so.

Working with the Governor's recommendation,  a political pressure group, DC-23, an acronym for Delta Central 2023, headed by Chief Ighoyota Amori, rooted for an Urhobo governor on the PDP platform, and upheld a screening exercise to reduce the aspirants to three eventually.

The final report was submitted to the Governor with Olorogun David Edevbie, Chief Kenneth Gbagi and Rt. Hon. Chief Sheriff Oborevwori making the list.

Without sentiments, the committee looked into their acceptability across the state, accessibility, integrity/credibility, capability, development strategy and Pan-Delta disposition to come up with the final list.

We Commend them for making history that will forever unite the Urhobo's for capacity and nation building. DC-23 gave Governor Okowa an easy choice to make amongst the trio.

However, talking about who is more
Pan-Delta, how will you describe persons without investment in Delta State to be more pan-Delta than the man who has sacrificed his hard-earned money to invest in a state where even multinational oil companies could not see light at the end of the tunnel, they relocated, they left the State.

One man stood firmly ('Kokoroko') insisting that Delta state must be great! Delta State must be industralised! that Delta State must beat Abuja and Dubai. This man situated his key investments here in the State. even those who disliked him, (which is normal) are satisfying their needs from what he has established years back (Robinson Plaza).

Without prejudice, The former Minister of Education (State), Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi discernibly leads the pack in terms of pedigree and competence.

Deltans, stakeholders of the People's Democratic Party PDP, all local government chairmen in the State, councilors down to ward leaders have accepted him. They are waiting for our dear Governor to tell Deltans that Gbagi is the man for all Deltans as the next governor of Delta State.

Okowa should Think deeply about Gbagi's investment, the direct and indirect jobs he has created in the State, the hope of better future that lies in his prowesity is much needed at such economically tobulent times like we are now.

According to vanguard report, "If  Gbagi wanted to make quick money, he had plenty of openings under the late Abacha, who then appointed him to coordinate a Federal Government Committee to develop Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja. Again, like the DDPA experience, Gbagi dumped the job when even military officers and businessmen offered him bribes running into millions of naira".

It it is pertinent to state that Gbagi want an economically vibrant Delta State for all Deltans to enjoy. He want businesses to flourish, Gbagi like majority of Deltans wants to ride home without security escorts because there will be too much jobs for the youth, so much so that there will be not time to linger on the streets or resort to criminality.

Gbagi is a foundational member of the PDP and the oldest aspirats, others have enough time ahead to govern this State in few years after Gbagi has beautify and transform it to a first class state. Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi is the only one best option Okowa Should thoughtfuly consider.
