Delta LG Polls: PDP Chieftain Akeinfa Blows Hot, Reject Adopted Consensus Candidate for Burutu
A Chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Burutu Local Government area of Delta State, Chief Frank Akiefa has expressed total disappointment at how the party adopted Chief Julius Takeme as Consensus Candidate of the Party for the upcoming Burutu Local Government chairmanship election which will be conducted by the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC.
Akiefa, who stated this on Wednesday, March 15th, 2024 in Warri, said he was disappointed over the total lack of transparency and fairness with which the party Adopted Takeme who did not declare interest in the local government chairmanship contest like other aspirants.
While lamenting that the PDP has goofed in Burutu, he warned that if nothing was done about the political abnormality, he will have no option but to champion mass defection of members from the party.
Chief Julius Takeme is the current State Vice Chairman of PDP and current PDP chairman of Delta South senatorial District who has been endorsed for the state party Chairman before the swing of political pendulum to local government chairmaship.
Frank Akiefa who is a popular Niger Delta activist, wihile vehemently rejecting the process, said "The purported selection of Takeme was misleading and opaque. Governor Sheriff Obovrevwori and the state party leadership should explain how Takeme who presided over the meeting of aspirants on the 14th of May 2024. He watched aspirants spend over 10 Million naira during their declaration meeting at Wellington Hotel in Effurun, yet he did not declare interest for Burutu chairmanship contest.
"The whole exercise became shocking when Takeme who didn't declare or spend a dime was picked and imposed on Burutu people, this is unacceptable.
"Burutu is not any other Local government area, I will lead massive defection of members from the PDP in Burutu if Governor Sheriff Obovrevwori does not explain how the selection was made, Burutu is not any other LG where candidates could be imposed.
"Julius Takeme did not declare interest for the chairmanship position. Though I am not against his selection, but the process. However, the truth fairness and equity should be allowed to stand if we still want the party to work in Burutu.
'I strongly feel that those we looked up to as leaders are trading with our opportunities and political advancement, expected them to be transparent and fair".
