DESOPADEC, Contractors, Oil Companies to Sponsor Training For OML-42 Youths

The Youth Forum in the OML42 host community in Delta State on Friday presented skill empowerment proposals to International Oil Companies (IOCs) as well as the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), the National Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), NECONDE JV and other agencies, seeking the organizations support in empowering no fewer than 120 persons in the area with skills acquisition program for wealth creation.

The Chairman of the OML42 Youth Forum, Comrade Bakawei Mamamu, while presenting the proposals at the end of a workshop held by the group in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area in Delta State passionately appealed for their support to enable the forum to achieve its target.

He noted that the OML42 Forum was set up to empower no fewer than 120 persons within its catchment area, but remarked that the main challenge is funding.

Mamamu expressed the hope that the intervention of the IOCs and the oil agencies would help the Forum in enabling them to create jobs for the teeming youths in the community apart from just empowering them with skills.

In a remark, the representative of the Ijaws in DESOPADEC Board, Mr. Bernard Okoh assured the OML42 Youth Forum of the Commission's support in realizing its agenda.

Also speaking, a two-time Commissioner in Delta State, Dr. Ebenezar Okorodudu commended the leadership of OML42 Youth Forum for the initiative pointing out that they had also worked hard in contributing to the emergence of Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as the Governor of the State.

He assured that Governor Oborevwori would do everything possible in the areas of quality development. of the State, especially the OML42 area.

Okorodudu urged the youths to equip themselves if they want to be purposeful leaders of tomorrow and not indulge in any type of nefarious activities that could jeopardize their future.

"Acquire the right knowledge. Be mindful of the type of friends you keep if you want to live long", he said.

High points of the event were sensitization lectures delivered by resource persons including environmental and human rights activists, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, and Comrade Israel Joe, among others.
