As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate the International Day of Persons With Disability 2022, Saturday December 3rd, a Non-Governmental (NGO), Empowerment for Global Disability Aid Initiative, (EGDAI) has appealed to Delta State Government, cooperates and multi-national organizations to create programmes that are aimed at assisting physically challenged persons in the State.

The National president of the group, Dr Kenneth Edun made the appeal at Africa for Peace Complex, Ugolo Osubi, Okpe Local Government Area during the commemoration of the 2022 International day of persons with disabilities in collaboration with the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice CEPEJ.

Edun disclosed that a lot of persons with disabilities in Delta State are members of the Empowerment for Global Disability Aid Initiative, (EGDAI) and they need support and empowerment from the government, Multinational and cooperate organizations as well as reputable personalities and civil society groups.

He added that Government hasn't done much to care for those living with disabilities as many lack Mobility-aids such as Wheel-chairs crushes and other items that could aid their movement from place to place. Dr Edun said;

"I passionately appeal to the Delta State government and well-meaning individuals to empower us who are physically challenged by creating programs and plans to address the needs of those challenged.

"People with disabilities need the same skills as those without disabilities to become financially empowered.

"A lot of challenged persons in EGDAI lack propper access to work areas especially some high buildings, Hospitals and health care. The Government need to do more by putting up measures to address the pressing needs of those living with disabilities.

The International Day of Persons With Disabilities (IDPD) is a day that is celebrated every year on December 3rd to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development.
