A frontline traditional ruler in Osun State, His Royal Majesty, the Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, Oba (Engr.) Moses Oluwafemi Agunsoye has called on the people of the ancient town, home and in the Diaspora, to generously support the ongoing initiative by the Government to upgrade the General Hospital in the community to a Federal Medical Centre.
Oba Agunsoye made the call in the courtyard of the royal Palace in Ijebu-Jesa on Saturday while addressing a delegation of the premier socioeconomic organization in the town, the Ijebu-Jesa Social Club (IJSC), led by its National President, Asiwaju Rotimi Obeisun, who had paid him a working visit.
The monarch hinted that, under the arrangement, the General Hospital, Ijebu-Jesa has been tipped to become an annex of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), hitherto known as Wesley Guild Hospital.
To this end, Oba Agunsoye disclosed that a high-powered government inspection team had already certified the Ijebu-Jesa General Hospital complex as "very suitable to become a Federal Medical Centre".
"The Hospital presently boasts of various standard multi-million naira facilities including a state of the art blood bank as well as HIV/AIDS Screening equipment, among others", the monarch quoted the Government inspection team as saying.
The Elegboro then enjoined public-spirited individuals and corporate organizations to support the Government in erecting standard perimeter fence round the Hospital to further guarantee security of life and property at the complex.
The monarch however warned land speculators and encroachers to keep away from the health facilities and other public assets in the town "in their own interests" noting that Government would not hesitate to deal decisively with whoever found wanting in such unscrupulous acts.
Speaking earlier on behalf of the visiting IJSC team, Asiwaju Rotimi Obeisun commended the Elegboro-in-Council for the ongoing efforts to safeguard government infrastructural assets in Ijebu-Jesa against vandalization and assured that the association would continue to do all in its power to further attract public development projects to the community.
It would be recalled that the IJSC facilitated the construction of the 60-bed General Hospital, Ijebu-Jesa in the early eighties before the sprawling edifice was formally handed over to the State Government in 1988 on its commissioning by the then Military Governor, the late Col. Sasaenia Oresanya.
