By Ezekiel Kagbala
ABUJA — The Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Sen. Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, has expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio, for their support toward the development of critical federal institutions in Delta South.
Senator Onowakpo stated this after joining the President of the Senate and Chairman of the National Assembly, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, to visit President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The lawmaker said the visit provided him an opportunity to personally thank President Tinubu for assenting to legislation establishing the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, and the Federal Medical Centre, Oleh, both located in Delta South Senatorial District.
According to Onowakpo, the presidential assent represents a significant milestone for the people of Delta South, particularly in expanding access to quality education, healthcare and other federal opportunities within the senatorial district.
He commended President Tinubu for giving legislative backing to the institutions, describing the development as an important step toward strengthening human capital and improving the socio-economic prospects of communities across Delta South.
The senator also acknowledged the role of Senate President Akpabio, whom he described as the “uncommon President of the Senate,” for his continued support and encouragement throughout the 10th National Assembly.
Onowakpo said the progress recorded so far would not have been possible without the cooperation and support of the leadership of the National Assembly and the executive arm of government.
He reaffirmed his commitment to using his position in the Senate to advance the interests of his constituents and attract more federal interventions to Delta South.
Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content and Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence.
He prayed for continued success for President Tinubu and Senate President Akpabio, expressing optimism that their partnership with lawmakers would yield further development initiatives for Delta South and Nigeria at large.
