Ewein Day: Group appeals to Delta Govt to establish College Of Education, Higher Institutions in Ogbe-ljoh

Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, came alive on Wednesday as residents celebrated Ewein Day, a significant event marking the town's Founder (Ewein) Day.
A social political and cultural group in the Niger Delta region, the Independent Grassroot Liberators, IGL, used the opportunity to appeal to the Delta State Government to establish a Technical College and other higher institutions in Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom, headquarters of Warri South-West Local Government Area of the State.
The appeal was made by the IGL's National President, Amb. Mamamu Bene Youkore, on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
The group also thanked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for restoring "fragile peace" between Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom and its neighbouring community, Aladja, in the Udu council area, while it hoped the government would do the needful to solidify the existing peace.
On the establishment of College of Education, Technical College and higher institution in Ogbe-Ijoh, according to Amb. Mamamu, their appeal is hinged on the fact that, as headquarters of Warri South-West, the Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom is legitimately entitled to a Technical College and that it is also due to host higher institutions as its people are not only peace loving but have supported the growth of the State over the years.
"Your Excellency sir, after going through rigorous and vigorous research, we notice that Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom, the Headquarters of Warri South-West Local Government Area is lacking a Technical College which is a legitimate right to every Local Government Headquarters. So please, don’t let Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom, the Headquarters of Warri South West Local Government Area, to be exceptional in this regard.
"We also want to let you know that Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom, the Headquarters of Warri South West is long due to host a higher institution even if it is College of Education. However, it is pertinent to say that most places where higher institution is being established is not up to the standard of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom in terms of easy assessment both land and water, infrastructure and land acquisition and others.
"Besides, Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom is a peace-loving community enriched with oil and large terrestrial of land that can accommodate Technical College, Polytechnic, College of Education or University.
"Your Excellency sir, history will bear witness that since the creation of Warri South-West Local Government Council, the good and God-fearing people of the Kingdom has positively support the growth and development of Delta State and the nation at large," Amb. Mamamu added.
Speaking further, he appealed to Governor Oborevwori and the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, to grant their request.
"In conclusion, we are asking for a Technical College which is a legitimate right to every Local Government Headquarters and we are also using this medium to request for a College of Education to be established in Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom, the Headquarters of Warri South West Local Government Area.
"We are by this brief press statement pleading to the Delta State Governor, H.E Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and the Speaker of Delta State Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor to please consider our plea and grant us our request," he concluded.
