Delta 2023: Okowa Bypass PDP Leaders, Holds Meeting With Adhoc Delegates in Asaba
Details have emerged from what seemed to be a secret meeting between Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the Peoples Democratic Party PDP adhoc delegates in Government House, Asaba, Delta State capital.
A source who attended the meeting, Saturday, 21st revealed that the governor bypassed other leaders and stakeholders of PDP to put up a meeting in a bid to perfect moves of installing his candidate instead of playing the role of a leader who should be trusted to provide a level playing field for all aspirants for the Delta PDP Governorship ticket.
One of the delegates hinted that moves to hijack the party and its structure were played out yesterday by the Governor himself who Instructed all ad-hoc delegates to vote for Sheriff Oborevwori as his candidate, that the party has resolved to conduct the primaries with Adhoc delegates.
He further disclosed that they were told to disregard insinuations that statutory delegates who may not have the power to vote cannot be voted for or contest the elections.
They were given the sum of one hundred thousand Naira with a promise of one million naira per delegate. Some delegates left the meeting angrily, others were denied access due to their affiliation with certain aspirants.
Our correspondent also gathered that prominent stakeholders of the party including former governors were not aware of the meeting and it was one of the smart moves of the governor for his anointed candidate
